Save the Loom: defining, documenting, and preserving

Though the project slowly started in 2018, it is still in its early phase. The main focus of the project is preserving, documenting, and defining Danish loom types.

The project is divided into three parts:

  •    Basic analysis of the concept of tools for weaving, using the focus and perception of the weaver as a framework for defining the fundamental characteristics of the tool for weaving.

  •    Registration of old looms in Danish museum collections.

  •   A study of the Danish loom factory, Lervad, that was operating during the late 19th and early 20th century.

On this page, you will find more detailed information about our project such as the research team, presentations, and previous and upcoming trips.

The page will be updated regularly, so please feel welcome to come back and explore more about our work.

Instruction manuals are now available!

The instruction manuals that the team found and scanned at Vejen Archive can now be found here in the "Lervad Archive"!

They are available in Danish, English, French,  and German, both for weaving and assembling.

Happy weaving and
