Den danske væv i 4000 år

Loom researcher Kathrine Vestergaard Brandstrup takes us on a journey through the world of the loom from the oldest bronze-age loom to the Lervad loom of today.

At the Center for Textile Research (CTR), researchers have for the last 10-15 years been documenting the long and eventful journey of the loom - especially focused on the bronze-age and the viking age.

Red Væven - et projekt der skal definere, dokumentere og bevare danske væve fra det 17.-20. årh.

The lecture explores the evolution of the loom and Danish weaving traditions. It highlights 15–20 years of research at the Centre for Textile Research, documenting weaving techniques and tools. The modern Danish loom originated in the late 19th century, driven by Jenny la Cour’s weaving school and Anders Lervad’s loom production. Today, Lervad looms remain iconic despite no longer being manufactured, with many still in circulation. Kathrine Brandstrup will share insights from the project group, including historical loom designs and Flemming’s rescue stories.
