As an archaeologist, I have previously been interested in anthropological research relating to traditional crafts production and textile techniques and technologies, regarding how this can inform our interpretation of the archaeological material. Attending the workshop made me think more about another aspect of traditional textile crafts: the extent to which they are in danger of dying out and the associated knowledge and skills lost. The workshop has generated new networks and collaborations, which will hopefully in the future lead to new initiatives to work towards documenting and recording these techniques and skills, and to increased awareness of how archaeologists, anthropologists and craftspeople can work together to make these crafts more visible in the modern world.
